Useful PBS Command

This example contains list of useful Portable Batch System (PBS) commands. The more information about the TORQUE resource manager (PBS) and the Moab Cluster Scheduler can be found at Adaptive Computing’s official documentation website, www.adaptivecomputing.com/resources/docs/

PBS Commands

                a. qsub: submits PBS job

                b. qdel: deletes PBS job

                c. qstat: shows the status of PBS jobs

                d. showstart: shows the approximate starting time of the job

                e. checkjob: shows the current status of the job

                f. checknode: shows the status of the node

                g. pbsnodes: shows the detail of nodes.

qsub: submits PBS job

Usage Example:

qsub -q bigmem pbs-script
OR
qsub -q hpc pbs-script
OR
qsub -q qamar pbs-script

Please note that qamar HPC only have 4 cpu’s so if u are using this cluster please make sure in the script, you state “ppn=4” to make sure your job can run.

qdel: deletes PBS job

Usage Example:

qdel [your_job_id]

qstat: shows the status of PBS jobs

Usage Example:

qstat -a

showstart: shows the approximate starting time of the job

Usage Example:

showstart [job_id]

checkjob: shows the current status of the job

Usage Example:

checkjob [job_id]
OR
showq

checknode: shows the status of the node

Usage Example:

checknode [node_id]

pbsnodes: shows the detail of nodes

Usage Example:

pbsnodes -a

To list the count of nodes along with the properties of nodes:

pbsnodes -a | grep properties | sort | uniq -c
