In the computing field, HPC means High Performance Computing. It is a computation done on High Performance Computers. High Performance Computers are computers with great processing capabilities terms of CPU speed, large memories and disk space. These are needed for large complex computation and large data sets.
HPC involves computation that uses parallel processing. Parallel processing is a decomposition of a computation into smaller computation tasks that can be executed in parallel. The main aim of parallel processing is to reduce computing time. So HPC is needed when you want to reduce computing time.
In order to use HPC, we must develop software that can be executed in parallel or use software packages that have already been developed to be executed in parallel. For developed packages, the user will have to determine whether the software is able to be used on a HPC.
We have three clusters are:
SUN Oracle Cluster: It consists of 2 nodes with (72 cores per node) four 4 x Intel Xeon E7-8895 v3 18-Core 2.6GHz processors. Each nodes have 1 TB of RAM. These cluster use high speed infiniband connections.
SUN Cluster: It consists of 7 nodes with (8 cores per node) two AMD Opteron 2356 2.3 GHz processors. Each nodes have 8 GB of RAM. These cluster use high speed infiniband connections.
IBM Cluster: It consists of 16 nodes with (4 cores per node) Intel Xeon DP 3.0GHz processors. Each nodes have 3 GB of RAM. These cluster use High Speed Myrinet connections.

Our mission is to create public computing grid to tackle project that benefit everyone especially Malaysian and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia students.
Our work has developed the technical infrastructure that serves as the grid foundation for scientific research other than facilitate the familiarization and deployment of GRID best practise and take lead in activities aimed to ensure high percentage of use, acculturation and awareness.
